Is There a Rule? by Em Lynas

Why should a tiger be orange?
Why should the sky be blue?
Why should the grass be pastel green?
Is there a rule? For who?

I want to splodge my colour on.
To splash and smudge and flick,
Red crocodiles with textured skin,
Fluorescent purple chicks.

I want to colour rhinos pink,
Giraffes in lime and navy.
Fast horses with magenta spots,
Their manes both straight and wavy.

I want to paint a lake of gold,
Fish swimming, rust and cream.
It's all inside my sleepy head,
I want to paint my dream.
